PURPOSE
To
promote motorcycle safety and riding enjoyment through
programs and activities that are in keeping with the
aims and purposes of the American Legion. To support
program events, parades and other ceremonies of the
American Legion. To foster a social atmosphere for the
American Legion Members and families who share these
same interests.

I.
Chapter and Residency
This Chapter shall be known as
AMERICAN
LEGION RIDERS
MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION
FLORIDA CHAPTER, POST 240
It is an activity of American Legion Post 240,
Pensacola, Florida (Warrington).
II: Membership
Chapter membership requires membership in good standing
in one of the following.
A. The American Legion.
B. The American Legion Auxiliary.
C. The Sons of the American Legion.
We
appreciate all brands of motorcycles and membership
does not require ownership of a motorcycle, just an
interest in helping to promote the American Legion
programs.
Persons
under the age of 18 years, will be allowed to join the
Association as JUNIOR members. They will have NO voting
privileges.
Membership applicants shall be approved by majority
vote at the monthly meeting.
III. Chapter "Charter" and "Lifetime" Members
These members are defined as
A. Charter Member – Joined the Chapter on or before
June 30, 2003. Members who
joined prior to January 01, 2003, shall hold the
honorific "PLANK OWNER".
B. Lifetime Member – A member in good standing who has
paid in full the lifetime
membership dues set by the general membership.

J. Safety Officer
K. Chaplain
(Officer positions may be filled on a primary and
collateral duty basis at the
discretion of the Chapter.)
V. Elections
Election of Chapter officers shall be held at the June
general meeting. Terms will be from July 1st, to June
30th of the following year.
VI. Duties of Chapter Officers
Director: Serves as Chief Administrative Officer of the
Association of the Chapter; preside over all meetings;
holds general supervision over the affairs of the
Chapter; holds signature authority for Chapter external
business obligations, contracts, and work orders;
represents the Chapter as required at appropriate
meetings and events.
Assistant Director: Assume the duties of the Director
when required; assist the Director in Chapter
administration as called upon.
Secretary: Keep full and correct records of all
proceedings at Chapter meetings; maintain the Permanent
File of Chapter Meeting Minutes as approved; keep
records of membership and other files as may be
required by the general membership.
Treasurer: Have charge of Chapter finances; disburse
funds as directed by the general membership; establish
and maintain the Chapter checking account requiring two
signatures as determined by the Director and Treasurer;
provide detailed financial reports at regular meetings;
maintain the Permanent File of Chapter Financial
Reports; provide copies of financial reports as
required by the sponsoring Post
Run Coordinator: Coordinates the logistics of Chapter
organized runs, parades, and charity events;
promulgates dates, times, routes and meeting places for
those participating in same; as necessary, in
conjunction with the Safety Officer, appoints assisting
Road Captains and takes other measures to facilitate
the safety, enjoyment and contingency needs of members
during a run.
Sergeant-at-Arms: Assists the Director in maintaining
order during Chapter meetings; performs related duties
as required by the general membership or the Director.
Historian: Record Chapter events and activities for
future review; maintain Chapter photo, run flyer, and
memorabilia files; assists the Public Affairs Officer
with needed materials as requested. Digital Camera used
by Historian will be passed down to
the next elected Historian.
Membership Chairman: Issues Chapter membership cards
for eligible, approved members; collects monies for
dues and any entry fees as approved by the general
membership; ensures applications are verified,
completed in full, and signed by the applicant; turns
over monies to the Treasurer when applications are
submitted for approval at monthly meetings; annual
renewals and dues will be processed in a similar
manner, as approved by the general membership.
Public Affairs Officer: Provides for a viable Chapter
Public Affairs program which serves to enhance the
internal Legion and external general public image and
reputation of the Legion Riders.
Safety Officer: Serve as Chapter focal point for
motorcycle rider safety and training efforts; maintains
the Chapter records of current member safety training
and licensing; maintains the Chapter file on state and
military installation safety equipment requirements;
provides information regarding chapter member mishaps;
submits safety and accident reports as may be required.
Chaplain: Officiate at the opening and closing of
chapter meetings; arranges visits to sick and
distressed members, their families, and fellow
veterans; reports on sick or distressed members at
Chapter meetings.
VII: Meetings
Meetings will be held on the second Sunday of each
month at 10:00AM at American Legion Post 240. The
meeting may be moved to another location and time to
coincide with an event or charity function if approved
by a majority of the general membership. Seven members
will constitute a quorum.
VI. Finances:
Finances of the Chapter will be from membership dues or
such other sources as approved by the general
membership. All monies will be given to the Treasurer
and properly deposited in a bank approved by the
Sponsoring Post Executive Committee.
Dues schedule, approved by the general membership on
February 9, 2003, shall be as follows:
A. Initial dues through June 30, 2003 - $7.50
B. Annual dues July 01, 2003 and out years - $15.00
Annual dues for JUNIOR members will be set at $8.00.
C. Lifetime Charter Member dues, paid in full not later
than June 30, 2003 - $100.00
D. Lifetime Membership dues July 01, 2003 and out years
- $150.00
E. Riders Lifetime Membership shall be non-transferable
IX. Chapter Governance
This Chapter shall adopt these By Laws as the governing
document for it membership. At the discretion of the
Chapter a set of Standing Rules may be adopted to
supplement and expand on these By Laws. These By Laws
shall be amended by majority vote of the general
membership to meet changing needs of the Chapter and
membership. These By Laws, their amendments, and
Standing Rules if adopted, shall be no less stringent,
nor in any way conflict with the National Constitution
and By Laws of the sponsoring American Legion Post 240.
As an activity of American Legion Post 240, this
Chapter shall provide a report of activities and a
financial statement to the sponsoring Post quarterly or
as requested.
X. Disbursement of Funds
This Chapter shall be a nonprofit entity and may only
disburse funds in a manner that is in keeping with all
local, state and national laws regarding such entities.
Such disbursements shall only be those authorized by
the general membership of the Chapter.
Chapter will maintain a fund of $50.00 for the
Historian. These monies will be used for film
developing and album expenses. Receipts will be turned
over to the Finance Officer.
XI. Expulsion
Any member may be expelled or suspended from the Local
Chapter by a majority vote of the general membership at
a regular Chapter meeting or special Director's meeting
of the Chapter.
XII.
The Official Insignia
The Official Insignia of the American Legion Riders
shall be the one available from National Emblem Sales.
The Emblem may contain only the following
modifications:
A. Florida Chapter at the bottom of the patch in Gold
writing
B. Post number at the bottom of the patch in Gold
writing.
C. A Gold border indicating a Charter Member
D. Two (2) Gold Stars one on either side of the word
American
indicating a Life Member.
E. The name of the City where the sponsoring Post is
located. This will be located below the word American
and will be in Gold writing.
F. The only Rockers allowed below the patch shall only
have one of the following: "Legionnaire" or "Auxiliary"
or "S.A.L." or "Veteran." This shall be placed under
the patch and must be touching or as close as possible
to the emblem or patch.
XIII. Order
All meetings shall be conducted under "Robert’s Rules
of Order."
